Forensic Psychology Assignment

This is a scenario given in a current Forensic Psychology class I'm taking.

Scenario: You are the officer on the scene of an assault and battery outside your local bar.

In the parking lot, you have a man who has been cut on his arm with a knife.

You have another man in custody who has cut marks on the palms of his hands.

The knife is on the ground, and it was not near either perpetrator.

What things should I look for to decide if this was a pre-meditated attack? An attack between gang members? Or if this was an attack caused by anger?
