I have the same thoughts, so I've looked up quite a bit on this in the past. The BAU is very popular, and there's a lot of competition, because many people want to get into it.
Apparently, you first need to do psychology work for years before-hand, or you won't even be glanced at. So first, you need plenty of experience. Math and Science also plays a part.

Well, you'll probably need to do well in science and maths. You would need a clean record and a good attitude.
